The birth of Leo

On the early morning of the 20th Dec 2006, your mum began to feel some tension and a little bit of pain in her tummy. She got a stomach-ache. There was a sign that she probably would give birth soon. She woke up at around 4:00 in the morning and went to grandma's room with a worry because the doctor predicted earlier that you were due in the next 3 weeks. At around 9:30am, we all packed up our bags and stuff ready to make a trip to the Aek-Udon hospital for the doctor to check (Aek-Udon hospital is in Udon, Thailand). Going together in our Vigo pickup to cross the Friendship bridge were your aunties Linda and Lita, grandma, your mum with you inside her tummy, and me. Aunty Lita was driving us heading to see the doctor at Aek-Udon.

Later, the doctor asked your mum to stay at the hospital because you were ready to be born but we didn't know when yet. Daddy had to go back to Vientiane on that day to catch a plane to Bangkok to take a GRE test (Graduate Records Exam for scholarship to study in U.S.) in the evening. The plan was Daddy had to take to test on the 21st Dec and return to Vientiane on 22nd and then go straight to the hospital to catch up with your mum and everyone. Daddy hoped to try to be present when your mum gave birth. But daddy was late and missed the opportunity.

You were born at 3:23am on the 21st Dec 2006 and your weight was about 2.7kg, healthy and completely normal. Your mum was also safe and healthy but very tired from the significant pains caused by giving birth naturally. You arrived about 3 weeks earlier than we expected but the doctor said it was still normal. Daddy didn't know about the good news yet because daddy was in Bangkok on the same day. Doctor told us that when you were being delivered out of your mum's tummy, your head came out first but you also raise your hand by your head making it difficult for the doctor to pull you out. [Doctor joked that you had a potential to become a politician as you raised your hand for vote since your birth]. You cried a little (normal thing) when you succesfully made your way out. Then the doctor put you in an oven specially for new born baby. When you were born, your grandpa Outip, grandma Keo, aunties Linda and Lita and grandma Joy were also present with your mum, but only grandma Keo got to go in the delivery room with your mum and the doctor's team to witness your birth. When you cam out, your lips were very red and pretty. From the pictures, you are the most lovable baby we've ever seen.

Daddy came back from the exam with a good news that daddy performed well on the test and got high scores but still did not know about you. Your uncle Tuty picked daddy up at the airpoint in Vientiane and congratulated daddy on the good news of your birth. Daddy was extremely happy and excited but never felt like that ever before. Then Daddy went home and packed a bag and then made a trip back to the hospital soon after. Daddy cannot describe how daddy felt the first time daddy met you - but daddy only know that it was extremely heartfelt and exciting. Daddy couldn't get much too close to you as daddy was having a cold and afraid that daddy would pass the cold to you.

Anyway, your mum might possibly be able tell the story of your birth better than me or anyone. Daddy is very proud of your mum and you and we both love you very much.
